April 2026 (part 2)

It's been a few weeks since we last spoke so now there's a big ol backlog of songs for me to tell you about. Let's first wrap up April 2026 by discussing the nine songs not blurbed in our last post!

Josephine’s Next Million Miles - “Rug”
The new Josephine’s Next Million Miles record is so cool! Dense, strange production and cryptic lyrics delivered wistfully, I’m happy to announce I’ve found another “laptop twee” band to fixate on.

Yu Su - “One Place After Another (ft. Seefeel)”
Tons to love on the latest LP from Yu Su, especially this intergenerational collab between two official Horse Combination vibemasters. Six minutes of gauzy, ASMR’d out dream pop!

Trio Ramberget - “TR / III”
Three Swedes getting absolutely zoned out on trombone, double bass, and bass clarinet in an empty oil cistern on a tiny Nordic island, this Trio Ramberget record has been a constant soundtrack for otherwise quiet moments in my life over the last few months. Glacial, haunted drones that sound like if Sunn O))) composed something for a chamber music festival.

Aldous Harding - “Venus in the Zinnia”
What a blessing to have Aldous Harding around to release a new batch of songs every few years. A true iconoclast! An actual artist! The real deal!

GAS - “Pop 5”
I’ve been listening to Wolfgang Voigt’s GAS project a lot lately, a frequent go-to for shutting out the noise on the train to and from work when I can’t think of anything else to put on. The lush, blissed-out ambience of his 2000 LP Pop was my entry point to their discography and is still the one I find myself returning to the most.

Downtown Boys - “You’re a Ghost”
Another unbelievable single from the new Downtown Boys record, out later this month. Loving the new textures and insane electronic noises they’re experimenting with here, a great complement to Victoria Ruiz’s commanding vocals.

Quiet Light - “You Say I Love You”
Speaking of awesome production, I’m a sucker for the sort of noisy, constantly shifting flourishes all over this track from Austin-based indie pop artist Quiet Light. Every ten seconds there’s another crazy thing happening and I think that's cool!

Greg Mendez - “No Evil”
A standout track from what’s maybe my favorite Greg Mendez record so far, wow! Intimate, timeless stuff.

ideasforconversations - “honest”
What if Spoon was just a guy making electronic pop songs in his bedroom? I think it might a little something like this…

April 2026's completed playlist is embedded below, we'll be back sooner than you think with thoughts on the cool stuff I heard in May!
