March 2026 (part one)

It's me, I'm back and I'm here to tell you about nine cool songs. This time around they've all been released in the last few months, which isn't always the case but is sometimes. They're the first nine songs on the Horse Combinations March 2026 playlist, a work in progress until it's not March anymore, then it's done and it's time to get to work on April's. You get the idea, right? Here are some blurbs:

Okonski - “Easy”
The two Okonski LPs have been a go-to soundtrack for having people over for the last few years; it’s the right kind of vibey, smoky, late night jazz with enough texture and character to prevent it from fading fully into the background. The new one-off single “Easy” is a great addition to their catalog, sounding like a lost track from Galt MacDermot’s Shapes of Rhythm or something.

Pearly Drops - “Heaven”
I haven’t dug much into their other stuff but this new song from Finnish synth pop duo Pearly Drops is really good! [Guy who listens to too much TOPS voice] sort of getting a TOPS vibe.

Seefeel - “Ever No Way”
All rise for new Seefeel! The first look at their new record, Sol.Hz, is vintage stuff, all spacey atmospherics and far-off, unintelligible vocals.

Full Body 2 - “turn so slow”
I like that this new Full Body 2 single sort of sounds like two songs playing at the same time. I remember digging their debut EP at the time and have high hopes for whatever’s next!

Suitor - “Factory”
It takes a lot to get me interested in this kind of garagey post punk these days but I’m liking what Cleveland’s Suitor is doing. Another potential Horse Combinations very cool band? Only time will tell!

Earth Ball - “Helsinki”
I was reading Treble’s feature 11 Great Experimental Albums from Winter 2026 and the writeup for Earth Ball’s Outside Over There had me intrigued. The “melt-your-face free-psych sludge-rock avant-noise ecstasy” is as thrilling as advertised, probably best exemplified by the pummeling “Helsinki,” which reminds me of Comets On Fire’s blissed out cosmic meltdowns or the early noise rock records from The Men.

Jonny Nash - “Smoke Rings”
Recorded during the sessions for his excellent 2025 LP Once Was Ours Forever, the sax-led “Smoke Rings” didn’t make the album's final cut but is absolutely worth spending some time with. A hazy detour into ambient jazz that I’ll probably use as a tone setting intro to a playlist or mixtape sometime in the next few months.

Pink Breath of Heaven - “Dream About My Love”
I just got around to checking out the Pink Breath of Heaven album from May of last year and think more people should be talking about it! The stomping, shimmering final track is probably my favorite at the moment, closing out the record with an incredibly impressive vocal performance, reminiscent of the most triumphant Angel Olsen dirges.

Mei Semones - “Tooth Fairy”
Perennial Horse Combinations favorites and frequent collaborators Mei Semones and John Roseboro reunite for another banger of a duet.

That's all for now, back soon with more! Playlist embedded below:
